Yay something new after a while! Interpret it how you will. I cant say I had a set plan or message for this piece, most of the time my mind is blanked out and I let whatever instinct take over the process and the outcome.
Submitted for Aurora's tour poster competition via talenthouse.
The competition was love at first sight, I havent heard of the singer before then. But seeing her visual aesthetics and listening to her music gave me the rush of inspiration I've been lacking with for the past couple of months.
The competition's rules prevents me from using 3rd party images, so i took it as a challenge to illustrate instead of my usual digital-imaging. Unlike the regular illustration approach, I'd draw in all the parts separately and piece them together like a collage, The background image was a scanned image of mixed-media collage made from news-clippings.

Yay new art, I have just discovered pixabay.com and its driving me nuts! Their image collection is so dope and its always a pleasure to not worry about accidentally using licensed images.
So here's something using images from that site, with a few stocks from deviantart. Credits listed below :3

I know its been a while since my last post. A lot has happened throughout that makes me question why I do the things I do, and whether or not I want to continue doing them.
One thing about being a designer I often hear people describe it as a balance between business and art. Designers have their vision but they need to lower their ego and assimilate their work along with the clients briefs/demands... blah blah blah...
I've been there, done all that, and very much tired of it all!
It's hard to enjoy having my vision altered, and my work micro-managed only to be reduced as a designing tool. Sure I get paid well for it, but Oh. My. Gawd. I can feel my soul disappearing everytime someone tells me to "make the black even more black"
That being said, there's still have a handful of clients I still enjoy working with! Some trust me and give me a lotta freedom, others might be picky but in a way that I learn from.
So as I'll be heavily screening any new clients that come my way... my plan is to focus my energy on being an "artist" rather than a "designer"
because in the end, If you don't enjoy creating it, who's gonna enjoy looking at it?
*end rant*

Feeling a little dark and a little romantic...
...and if time (inspiration) permits, i'll turn this into a series.

Inspired by Alberto Seveso. Been trying to figure out how he does his photoshop collages for ages... Now that I sorta figured it out I can move on to other things

Here's an old photoshoot I did, altered with new editing! I did these series up for my book which I have yet to print :/ Its so costly I've been contemplating doing a smaller series of books or even a set of postcards & posters instead... *sigh* budget

A while back I had an offer to print an artbook in order to promote a newly opened printing service. They requested 152 pages of artworks, which is pretty much gave me a heart-breaking revelation: That I dont have 152 pages worth of artworks!!!!
What the heck was I doing all these years? Have I been slaving to clients that I dont even have enough artworks I could proudly present as "my own"?
Tragic.
So I ended up in a situation where I will do nothing else but create! My deadline to submit "152" pages was in 3 days since my offer... Sounds impossible but It had to be done for my sanity's sake.
Fortunately for me I got another 2 days extension to work things out... I had to keep churning out new artworks and expanding on some old ones within the short timeframe. 3/5 days I kept wanting to give up, but thankfully I've gotten a lotta push and support from the people around me.
In the end, having to create 20 new pieces in 5 days is ridiculous... So eventually I negotiated to reduce my page count to around 96.
Voila! I have my very own artbook! with plenty of new works to upload on this blog :)
